I am a hard of hearing, 20 year old. I am very interested in going into mission work with the deaf. I was so excited to find this page because I have been looking for a chat room for deaf and hard of hearing people for a long time. I live in Ontario Canada and am hoping to attend North Central Bible College next September and go into their Deaf Culture Ministries program. I would love to receive a response from anyone who can share more information about the hearing impaired and any chat rooms that are availble for deaf and hard of hearing people.

I am a Family Practice Physician who is fairly fluent in ASL. I understand many deaf and hard of hearing are looking for a physician who signs and/or one who understands issues they face. I am wondering if there are any other health care providers in the Seattle area who sign? If anyone wants to come see me, I have a clinic in Renton, WA (575-4721)

Folks...I always answer email sent to me...if you don't get a reply, it's probably because your email address is invalid. That results in my reply being bounced back to me as undeliverable.
Your email package or browser email is set up to supply an automatic email Reply To: address. If that has not be set, or is set up wrong when you email to someone, they can't reply to you. Be sure to check it out.
As a precaution, I have a signature file which is attached to all my mail when it is sent...in it is my email address. You might want to consider doing that also.
Thanks!!!!!!!! :-)

This is very important for everyone that uses the relay anywhere in the USA:
The Federal Communications Commission has sent out a Notice of Inquiry; it seeks comment on the effectiveness of the current telecommunications relay services (TRS) program. I am compiling a list of responses to be sent to the commission. Please feel free to state your opinions, but consider the following before you click the reply button.
First, make sure that you reply to pn0017a@american.edu. (Watch that little "a" before the @). Please send this message to friends, family members, and coworkers (with or without hearing) who have used relay services several times.
The commission also seeks comment on new technologies and possible rule changes that could improve TRS. How can access be made more 'readily achievable?'
How can TRS bring more individuals with disabilities within its service capabilities?
In other words, think about some of the following: Do you think operators are efficient or dependable? Is there a way we can make this service faster and better? If not many people know about the relay, how can we expand publicity? What problems have you had?
Please add any other comments; the more information we acquire, the better!

My husband is sending this for me tonight because he loves me and will do anything to help me. He said this was one of the best looking web sites (whatever that is) that he has ever seen on the Internet. I would appreciate any E-mail about CODA's (children of deaf adults). I am preparing a research paper and oral report in my Deaf Cultures class at Palomar University in Southern California. Keep up the good work and God bless you.

Hi. One person here asked about TDD stuff for computers. I have NexCom300 modem/TDD/Fax. It is very nice. Their web page is: http://www.nxicom.com/over.htm NexCom Modem 300. (I don't work for them.) This modem does all: TDD with auto-answering for TTY and Fax at same time. (But not voice.) And it is same modem for access the internet - all in one. It costs about $300 for modem with all software - very nice.
Here are other links I found useful for TDD stuff: AT&T TTY 8840 for the hearing-impaired http://www.att.com/press/0695/950627.cpa.html

Hello. Your web page is well done and very informative. I am with Sorenson Vision and representing to the Deaf community. We announce a new breakthrough technology that we can communicate visually on the computer with our ASL over the telephone line. Yes, I mean the telephone line NOT special cable like IDSN or faster line. I have used this video phone software to communicate visually with my associates and have been amazed at its clarity and speed. This software will be available in late March for the market. We also will have a website set up soon. I will let you know when it is ready. If you have any questions, please let me know at my email: jhodson@s-vision.com.

I do have a hearing loss in that due in part to my earlier occupation in the Data Processing field, several years of high frequency machine noise, 8-10 hours a day. But that is irrelevant. I incurred a left cerebral hemorrage in 1981 that wiped out my communicative, comprehensive skills. In 1993, I graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work & Associates in Sociology. My emphasis being on Families of Stroke & Other Traumatic Disabilities. Became Licensed in the State of Idaho in 1995. With the support and backing of Ellen Andersen of SE Idaho In Home Services, Inc. a Non-Profit Organization, & Terry Tetrault, associated now with Web Resources,L.L.C., of Pocatello, Idaho, I now have a Home Page.

I have already included your site with In Home Inc. as a resource for our consumers, although it has not been completely linked as of yet. It is a very good site, and I.S.U. is developing a good program for the Deaf Community. My Home Page is also linked with a number of resources around the country.

I AM IN ASL 3 IN HIGH SCHOOL. WE HAVE RECENTLY LEARNED THAT THERE WILL NOT BE AN ASL 4 CLASS FOR US NEXT YEAR. THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT CAN NOT FIND ENOUGH ASL TEACHER FOR ASL 1,2,3,AND 4 FOR 3 DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOLS. WE ARE VERY DISSAPOINTED BECAUSE MANY OF US WANT TO BECOME INTERPRETERS OR TEACHERS OR DOCTORS FOR THE DEAF. IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS A SOLUTION THAT MAY HELP US PLEASE LET ME KNOW. WE ARE DESPRATE TO HAVE ASL 4!

Hello, I am a 27 year old student working on my Masters in Teaching..I have a BA in Botany (Univ. Wash 1995) During my undergraduate education, I studied ASL I,II,&III. I found a connection there that I did not expect. I am not deaf nor hard of hearing. Does anyone know of any opportunities for me to volunteer teaching Science/Nature Studies to children? I have "developing" ASL skills, and a sincere desire to improve them. I would love to offer my skills as an elementary Science teacher, with the understanding that my ASL skills are in need of patience. Science lends itself to visual lessons, and I expect this could be quite beneficial to all involved. I live in Olympia WA. Anyone with any information, or willing to discuss my proposal, please contact me. Thank you, CB

Dear DEAFWEB WASHINGTON,
March 17, I had my cochlear implant surgery at "S. Giovanni e Paolo" hospital in Venice by Prof. Gregorio Babighian. The implant was a Clarion and a post-surgery test told me that all 16 electrodes are working very well!

Aloha! I'm a student here at Kapiolani Community College and I'm in the Occupational Therapy Program. My original interest was to major in Special Education and work with mentally retarded and deaf children. However, I found that I could do just as well in the OT field and graduate in two years... Needless to say, I'm still very interested in working with people of all ages who have special needs. If anyone has any suggestions where I could get some information on schooling for these areas please let me know. Mahalo, Tammi
